Blocked Senders
Block emails from specific senders to keep your inbox clean.
How Blocking Works
When you block a sender:
- Future emails from them are automatically moved to Junk
- The block applies to the exact email address
- The sender is added to your blocked list
Blocking a Sender
From an Email
- Open an email from the sender you want to block
- Right-click on the email
- Select Block Sender
From the Email List
- Select an email from the sender
- Right-click
- Choose Block Sender
Viewing Blocked Senders
To see all blocked senders:
- Open Settings (
⌘,) - Go to the Blocked Senders tab
You'll see a list of all blocked email addresses.

Unblocking a Sender
To remove someone from your blocked list:
- Go to Settings → Blocked Senders
- Find the email address
- Click the Unblock button
Future emails from this sender will go to your inbox normally.
Auto-Block on Junk
Enable automatic blocking when you mark emails as spam:
- Go to Settings → Blocked Senders
- Toggle Auto-block on mark as junk on
Now whenever you press ! to mark an email as spam, the sender is automatically blocked.
This is useful for persistent spammers who keep emailing you.
What Blocking Doesn't Do
Blocking in Gaivota:
- Does not notify the sender
- Does not prevent them from emailing you
- Does not sync with your email provider's block list
It only affects how Gaivota handles their emails locally.
Blocked Emails
Emails from blocked senders:
- Are moved to your Junk folder
- Can still be viewed if you check Junk
- Help train the spam detector (if enabled)
Tips
When to Block
Block senders who:
- Send repeated unwanted emails
- Don't have an unsubscribe option
- Are clearly spam
When Not to Block
Consider alternatives for:
- Newsletters (use unsubscribe links instead)
- People you might need to hear from later
- Emails with useful but annoying notifications (adjust settings in that service)
Bulk Blocking
If you have many senders to block:
- Mark their emails as spam (
!) - With Auto-block enabled, they're all blocked
Privacy
Your blocked senders list is stored locally on your computer. It's not shared with your email provider or synced across devices.
