Adding Accounts
Gaivota supports Microsoft and Gmail accounts. You can add multiple accounts and switch between them seamlessly.
Adding a Microsoft Account
Microsoft accounts include Outlook.com, Hotmail, Microsoft 365, and work/school accounts.
- Click Add Account or go to Settings → Accounts
- Select Microsoft
- A browser window will open for authentication
- Sign in with your Microsoft credentials
- Grant Gaivota permission to access your email
- You'll be redirected back to Gaivota
Once connected, Gaivota will begin syncing your folders and emails. The initial sync may take a few minutes depending on your mailbox size.
Adding a Gmail Account
Gmail accounts include personal Gmail and Google Workspace accounts.
- Click Add Account or go to Settings → Accounts
- Select Gmail
- A browser window will open for Google authentication
- Sign in with your Google credentials
- Grant Gaivota permission to access your email
- You'll be redirected back to Gaivota
Gmail uses OAuth 2.0 for secure authentication. Gaivota never sees or stores your password.
Managing Multiple Accounts
You can add multiple email accounts to Gaivota. Each account appears in the sidebar with its own folder tree.
Switching Between Accounts
Use keyboard shortcuts to quickly switch accounts:

Or click on an account in the sidebar to switch to it.
Account Settings
Each account has individual settings you can customize:
- Go to Settings (⌘,) → Accounts
- Click on the account you want to configure
- Available settings:
- Display Name: How the account appears in the sidebar
- From Name: The name shown when you send emails
Removing an Account
To remove an account:
- Go to Settings → Accounts
- Find the account you want to remove
- Click the Remove button
- Confirm the removal
Removing an account will delete all locally cached data for that account. Your emails on the server are not affected.
Troubleshooting
Authentication Failed
If authentication fails:
- Ensure you're using the correct credentials
- Check that your account doesn't have two-factor authentication issues
- For work/school accounts, your organization may have restrictions
Sync Issues
If emails aren't syncing:
- Check your internet connection
- Try removing and re-adding the account
- Check the account status in Settings
Permission Denied
If Gaivota can't access your email:
- You may have denied permissions during sign-in
- Remove the account and add it again
- Make sure to grant all requested permissions
